Swiss biomethane demand sits well above Swiss biomethane production, so most of the gas arrives from the EU. Getting it across involves a specific set of instruments that do not map neatly onto the German or Dutch systems.
Since January 2025, Pronovo issues the certificates. Naturemade Star adds a premium label for gas made from waste and residues. Imports come through the AIB hub, currently from nine EU countries — and whether a certificate is recognised depends on the agreements between the two registries, not on the quality of the gas.
For a Swiss buyer, the practical consequence is blunt: the cheapest European offer is often the one that cannot be transferred. The workable price is the one where the certificate arrives.
bGX is based in Zürich and a VUE member. We source across Europe and deliver into the Swiss system with recognition already resolved.
